I agree with Dawkins that religion gets undeserved attention.. I thought Tillman on Real Time was great.
He made a great point on John McCain and Maria Shriver's comments at his brothers funeral. Maria said "Pat, you are home, you are safe," and McCain said, "You will see Pat again when a loving God reunites us all with our loved ones,"
Richard Tillman spoke next at the funeral and said " Thank you for coming, Pat's a f---ing champion and he always will be. Just make no mistake, he'd want me to say this, he's not with f---ing God he's f-ing dead. He's not religious, so... thanks for your thoughts but he's f---g dead." On the show he further said "You know, I just found it offensive it's like, I don't go to church and say, "This is bullshit," so don't come to my brother's service and tell me that he's with God, he's simply not with f---g God.
I think that took guts and I am glad he did it. Religious and beliefs are not assumptions , and it was rude and offensive of them. Belief and non belief is personal and respected.
